Today we’d like to take a closer look at some of the advanced tests available to detect and diagnose cancer. Hall Longevity Clinic, beginning with the first FDA approved early cancer detection test. brings you the future of medical detection. This test is non-invasive, and only requires a small vial of blood to determine where there are increased levels of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in a person’s genes. The test works through an analysis of cell-free DNA (cfDNA), detecting the presence of certain genomic markers called ctDNA in nine cancer driver genes.
The early cancer detection test can deliver results using just one blood sample in as little as two to three weeks and is best suited to patients that have not been previously diagnosed with cancer in the past but are at an increased risk. Should the test find ctDNA, there is a possibility a patient may have a tumor that’s shedding ctDNA into the bloodstream, necessitating a follow-up screening and additional clinical testing to determine whether a patient may have a specific type of cancer.
Early cancer detection test results are delivered as positive or negative but it’s important to note that the test is considered diagnostic. Again, it’s important to do follow-up testing. Should a patient receive a negative result, it does not rule out the presence of a current or future cancer, nor does it affect the patient’s future risk for cancer.
